Schematic representation of the pathway
H2ercules Network North-West connects hydrogen imports from the Netherlands via the Vreden border crossing to major industrial consumption centers in the Ruhr region. The hydrogen will also be able to be transported to other regions of Germany via the connected H2ercules sections.
The GetH2 section Dorsten–Hamborn and the pipeline sections Gescher–Dorsten and Vreden–Gescher form the hydrogen pipeline system from the German-Dutch border to the Ruhr region. The newbuilt pipeline Dorsten–Hamborn (approximately 42 km), as a central component of the GetH2 project, connects the Duisburg industrial area to the hydrogen core network and is scheduled to go into operation as early as 2027. The two sections converted from natural gas pipelines, Vreden–Gescher and Gescher–Dorsten, with a combined length of approximately 45 km are scheduled to follow by 2031, completing the approximately 87-km-long connection to the Dutch border. In addition to OGE, Thyssengas H2 is participating as operator for the GetH2 section Dorsten-Hamborn.
